GMAT = Remembering Math from Highschool

| Comments (0)
I've recently decided to apply to business school. Not because I don't love design! I do. I've just been thinking about what kind of job I will have when I graduate and I just don't think production-type work will be what makes me happy. I would rather work on the overall concepts and manage projects as a whole. Business/Design job... if possible...

One of my main problems is the fact that you have to take a standardized test called the GMAT to apply to b-school. I got a book at Barnes & Noble to help me brush up on my math skills, seeing as I haven't done any real math in, oh, 6 years. Unfortunately, after trying a couple example problems, I realized that I not only have forgotten everything about algebra, I can barely do long division! So I'm taking a 9-session Kaplan course to help study for the test, which seems to be helping a lot.

My goal is to get into Ohio State, but if I don't, my GMAT score stays good for 5 years, so I can see where Matt gets into dental school, and plan from there. If I do awful on this test, oh well. At least I can say I tried.

Wedding Planning... Oh Noes!

When Matt and I first got engaged, I bought a ton of wedding magazines and was super excited about planning our wedding. The glossy Martha Stewart images are so perfect! But once I started actually looking at things in real life, I was blown away by how much things cost...

We looked at having a destination wedding in Florida at a resort where I have vacationed with my parents for years.... It sounded perfect until we learned about the $10,000 (!) catering minimum. We are still looking at a destination wedding, but now we are thinking an off-season cruise to the Caribbean could be really fun.

Getting married on a cruise would limit my options, as far as picking out every little detail. But maybe that is a good thing; it would allow me to leave the details to someone else while Matt and I spend time relaxing with our friends and family. It is more important to spend that time making memories with the people we care about, than to spend it worrying about if the table linens match the plates...

Thats where we are for now. More updates in the future...

About Me

| Comments (0)
I am a 21 year old student at DAAP, majoring in Digital Design. At DAAP, students are required to "co-op" at an actual design job every-other quarter. I have learned a lot from the four quarters I spent on co-op so far, but I know that I could handle more responsibility than I was given, and I want to be more involved in the design process.

So for co-op quarter this summer, I started working for myself as a freelance designer (mostly web design, with some print work and branding also). Its a little scary not having the safety net of a guaranteed 40-hour work week, but I really enjoy having creative freedom and working directly with clients. If you are ever looking for a designer, I would really appreciate it if you would keep me in mind.

I also love to read, so last year I started my blog, which is basically a collection of things I find interesting and want to share. The sites I usually read can be found under resources.

In June, I got engaged to my wonderful boyfriend of four years, Matthew. So, along with the chaos that is freelancing, I am also trying to plan a wedding. Matt and I also got a puppy named Wiley, who is adorable when he's not busy destroying vital parts of my laptop.

My time is spent all over Ohio, divided between Columbus (where Matt attends OSU), Lebanon (where I live with my parents), and Cincinnati (where I go to school). For fun, I travel, draw, take photos, ski, play cards, and blog. Now that you have the basics about me, you can expect updates to be posted here in the future.
